List of Documents Required for Applying Passport

Passport Required Documents The Indian passport is one of the most important travel document that an individual possesses. It is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India. The document proves the holder’s identity and ensures that he/she can travel to foreign countries under the government’s protection. While applying for the Indian passport, the applicant is required to submit several documents. Here, we take a look at the list of documents that is required to be submitted in order to avail a fresh passport, diplomatic passport and other purposes like renewal and reissue of the document. Documents required to be submitted while applying for a Fresh Passport When an individual applies for a fresh passport by filing a normal or tatkal application, documents like address proof and age proof needs to be submitted by all the applicants irrespective of the category they fall under i.e., adult, senior citizens and minors. Mentioned below are the documents that adults and senior citizens can submit as proof of address and age: Proof of Address:

1.Photo Passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks. 2.Water bill. 3.Election Photo ID card. 4.Landline or Postpaid mobile bill. 5.Proof of Gas Connection. 6.Election Photo ID card. 7.Spouse’s passport copy (First and last page of the passport that includes the details of the family and mentions applicants name as spouse of the passport holder). 8.Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head. 9.Income Tax Assessment Order. 10.Aadhaar card. 11.Electricity Bill. 12.Rent Agreement. Age Proof: 1.School leaving certificate/ Secondary school leaving certificate. Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority that has been empowered under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act, 1969. 2.Declaration given by the Head of the Orphanage/Child Care Home on the official letterhead confirming the date of birth of the applicant. 3.Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies which contains the date of birth of the holder. 4.Extract of the service record of the applicant (in case of government servants) or Pay Pension Order (retired government servants) that is duly attested/certified by the officer/in-charge of the Administration of the concerned Ministry/department of the applicant. 5.Driving license. 6.PAN Card. 7.Election Photo Identity Card. 8.Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar. Minors who apply for a fresh passport are required to submit the following documents as address proof and age proof. Proof of Present Address: Proof of current address in the parents name as mentioned below. 1.Photo Passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks. 2.Water bill. 3.Election Photo ID card. 4.Landline or Postpaid mobile bill. 5.Proof of Gas Connection. 6.Election Photo ID card. 7.Spouse’s passport copy (First and last page of the passport that includes the details of the family and mentions applicants name as spouse of the passport holder). 8.Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head. 8.Income Tax Assessment Order. 10.Aadhaar card. 11.Electricity Bill. 12.Rent agreement. 13.If the parent possesses a passport, the original and self-attested copies should be carried.

Proof of Date of Birth: 1.School leaving certificate/ Secondary school leaving certificate. 2.Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other prescribed authority that has been empowered under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act, 1969. 3.Declaration given by the Head of the Orphanage/Child Care Home on the official letterhead confirming the date of birth of the applicant. 4.Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies which contains the date of birth of the holder. 5.Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar. 6.Recognised school or university 10th standard mark’s card bearing the date of birth. Documents Required to be submitted for Re-Issue of Passport: An individual can apply for a reissue of the passport due to a variety of reasons. When the passport is reissued, the passport number changes and a new booklet is issued to the applicant. The documents to be submitted by those who apply for reissue of passport varies depending on the reasons. Mentioned below are the documents that adults working in the government sector, PSUs and Statutory bodies can submit in order to apply for reissue of passport under various reasons: Reason: Due to expiry of validity or Exhaustion of pages or Validity due to expire. Documents: 1.Old passport in original. 2.Self-attested photocopy of: The first two and last two pages. ECR/Non-ECR page. 3.Page of validity extension (if any). 4.Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority. 5.No Objection Certificate (NOC)/Prior Intimation Letter (PI). Reason: Due to Renewal of Short Validity Passport (SVP). Documents required: 1.Old passport in original. 2.Self-attested photocopy of: The first two and last two pages. ECR/Non-ECR page. Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority. Page of validity extension (if any). 2.No Objection Certificate (NOC)/ Prior Intimation Letter (PI). 3.Proof of documents which eliminates the cause of issuance of Short Validity Passport (SVP). Reason: Due to Loss/stolen passport /damaged beyond recognition. Documents required: 1.Proof of Date of Birth. 2.Proof of present address. 3.Police report in original. 4.Affidavit stating how and where the passport got lost/stolen/damaged. 5.No Objection Certificate (NOC)/Prior Intimation Letter (PI). Reason: Due to damaged passport with the passport number readable, name legible and photograph intact. Documents required: 1.Old passport in original. 2.Self-attested photocopy of: The first two and last two pages. ECR/Non-ECR page. Page of observation (if any) made by Passport Issuing Authority. Page of validity extension (if any). 3.No Objection Certificate (NOC)/Prior Intimation Letter (PI). 4.Proof of Date of Birth. 5.Affidavit stating how and where the passport got lost/stolen/damaged.  

Documents to be submitted by adults and senior citizens while applying for a Passport under Tatkal mode.

Documents Required For Tatkal Passport.

Listed below are the documents required in order to apply for Tatkal Passport.

1.Verification Certificate as per Annexure F 2.Election card 3.Service Photo Id Card 4.Certificate of SC/ST/OBC 5.Identity cards of Freedom Fighters 6.Arms License 7.Ration card.

Documents to be submitted by adults and senior citizens while applying for a Passport under Tatkal mode If an individual needs to travel out of the country on short notice, he/she needs to avail the passport within quicktime. If such an instance arise, all the applicant needs to apply for the Indian passport under the Tatkal mode. The application can be made at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSKs) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSKs) who will forward it to the Regional Passport Office (RPO) for processing.
